Provide Feedback About Draft Policy for Unmanned Aerial System

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Consultation has concluded. Thank you for participating.

The City of Mankato has purchased an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), also known as a drone. The UAV will be used across City departments and operated by trained staff. Public Safety is one of the departments that will be using this tool so must adopt a policy specific to how the UAS will be used by law enforcement.

Using best practice and information from the League of Minnesota Cities, a policy has been drafted, and under Minnesota State Statute 626.19, subdivision 9, it must be shared with the public for their input prior to it being adopted. Community members are encouraged to provide input through Wednesday, October 5 or by:

  • Email: Jeremy Clifton at jclifton@mankatomn.gov
  • Phone: 507-387-8782
  • Mail:
    City of Mankato
    Public Safety Center
    Attn: Jeremy Clifton
    710 South Front Street
    Mankato, Minn. 56001

Comments about the policy may also be provided at the Mankato City Council meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, October 11. It will be held in the Mankato Room at the Intergovernmental Center, 10 Civic Center Plaza.

If interested in receiving a copy of the model policy by mail or email, please contact staff at 507-387-8782. Copies of the policy are also available at the Public Safety Center, 710 South Front Street.
