New exhibits were shared with the community at a public engagement event held on October 6, 2022. As part of the event, previous conceptual redevelopment scenarios were also shared to help show progress made based on public input. Also shared were examples of opportunities for public and open spaces on the site, a summary of community input received so far, next steps involving public input and a primary conceptual diagram showing potential future land uses for the site.

Scenarios

Conceptual Scenarios - June 2022

This document shows conceptual redevelopment scenarios of the site. These scenarios do not represent development plans, and were prepared as an example of how the site could be developed to aid with obtaining community input about how the site could be redeveloped in the future.

Potential Opportunities: Open Space and Water Feature

View examples of how the parks and open space area of the site could be used and locations of potential opportunities for water features on the site and other amenities.

Plaza/Gathering Space Near the River

View examples of how a plaza or public gathering space could be used on the site.

Community Input from Previous Open House

Summary of public input received.

Next Steps Involving Public Input

There will be more public input after the redevelopment plan. This exhibit summarizes future steps that will need to be reviewed before the site can be developed/buildings can be constructed.

Primary Conceptual Diagram

This diagram shows future underlying land uses for the site. There is flexibility with the boundary locations for each land use type and road alignments.

Update July 2022

Public engagement was conducted on June 28, 2022 at Columbia Park to gather feedback on two redevelopment scenarios (A and B). The scenarios were developed after considering public feedback gathered online and through a face-to-face engagement held May 5. Please review the two scenarios (available under Documents) and then complete survey to provide feedback.

Next steps: A refined development scenario will be drafted after reviewing additional feedback received. There will be opportunities to provide feedback on the refined redevelopment plan. Stay tuned for the next public engagement event. Details to come!

Help rethink the Jefferson Quarry. The quarry was used to mine limestone and sand until 2017 when mining operations ended. Now, efforts are underway to imagine how the Jefferson Quarry, which consists of more than 50 acres, can be redeveloped and reused.

What do you imagine for the future of the Jefferson Quarry? What neighborhood and community needs could this area potentially serve? Complete the survey. Share your ideas. Discuss.

The Jefferson Quarry site is privately owned and the property owner is working closely with the City of Mankato to help discover possible uses for the quarry.
